OWLs Readathon TBR
Hello fellow bookworms! I hope you've all had a good weekend and are staying safe and keeping well. I thought I would share my April TBR with you as this year I am taking part in the Magical Readathon! It's all very exciting!
The Magical Readathon is hosted by G from Book Roast and lasts throughout the month of April. It's based on the OWL exams from the Harry Potter series and is a great way to get through your TBR pile. The readathon later continues in August with the NEWT exams.
Each subject (eg. Charms) has a prompt and each career has a selection of subjects you're required to 'study' in order to move forward in that career. You then use the subjects to help decide which books you're reading throughout April.
This year I chose the career of 'Librarian' because it sounded really exciting and so my OWLs are: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic and Transfiguration.
There were no other courses or seminars that I wanted to take, but at the bottom of the sheet a job at Flourish and Blotts was advertised. A requirement for the role was an OWL in charms so I have added that to my 'exam timetable' for both fun and to increase the challenge.
The first subject I am studying is Ancient Runes and the prompt for this subject is to have a heart on the cover or in the title of the book. This what a really easy choice and has given me the opportunity to read a book I have wanted to read for a really long time - Heartstopper Volume One by Alice Oseman.
Next up is Arithmancy and for this I have to read something outside of my favourite genre. It was quite hard to choose what to read for this prompt but I eventually went for Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings.
Then I have Defence Against the Dark Arts and I have to read a book set at the sea/coast. So for this I chose The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young.
My fourth exam is History of Magic and for this I have to read a book featuring witches/wizards. This was the easiest for me to choose as I have been wanting to read Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin for the longest time and now is the perfect opportunity.
The last exam based on the Librarian role is Transfiguration and the prompt for this is to read a book that includes shapeshifting. I chose A Throne of Swans by Katharine and Elizabeth Corr, which features humans transforming into birds and sounds amazing.
Which books are on your TBRs for April? Are you participating in the Magical Readathon? If so tell me know in the comments which career and books you've chosen. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you in the next post!
